Yes it was and art form. Handwriting was a very individual expression and people even used it to 'read' the writer. Now we just have different fonts and formatting to express that. How I would have loved to have found some really special items such as your letters! It's the greatest pleasure I get from having a blog, meeting lovely people aside. I can't remember the last time I put pen to paper other than writing a shopping list..
