“You are the leader of your life.” Jonathan Budd
Day 20 of a 30-day video challenge arrives. I draw a blank.
The fear of limiting beliefs can bring you to a standstill.
In the morning emails, there is a video from Jonathan Budd. He shares a heart-to-heart conversation on how he’s changing his life by facing the fear of his false beliefs. The gist of his limiting belief was that if he stopped working he’d fail.
Within the hour, Andrea Goodsaid and I were discussing his video and she pointed me to her response. It was one of the most powerful comments I’ve ever read. With her permission, I’ve copied it here:
When the Universe whacks you over the head with a lesson, it is time to listen. Two powerful mentors spoke to me that day. With their guidance I examined some of my limiting beliefs.
If you haven’t watched Jonathan’s video, I highly recommend you do so. It might be a life-altering event for you, too.
With Love and Light,

Dear Friend,
It is time to get out the axe. We can do whatever we set our minds to, right?

Darlene,
I enjoyed your post and really loved your video. It’s easy to see the progress you’ve made in your 30 day video challenge by the ease you have sharing in this video. It takes tremendous courage to reveal the limiting beliefs you shared. You did it very naturally and the passion was conveyed.
Identifying what is holding you back is the key to moving beyond the wall. You offer great value to us and I enjoy our tribal calls. I fully believe that the right person for you is there to be found and the timing for it will be just the way it’s meant to be.
You’re in the home stretch!

Darlene,
Great post on limiting beliefs. We do have choices in allowing this to hold us back or move forward in life. Thanks for sharing Jonathan’s tips on blasting these and overcoming them to succeed.

Yes Val,
When we realize that we have choices, and understand what is holding us back, it’s time to use the good old axe.

Darlene I have tears in my eyes after watching you. What a heartfelt share. Your 30 day challenge has obviously be wonderful for your confidence with video.
I also have watched the video from JB. I have a similar one to him in a way. I have had a belief that if I am not busy my world will fall apart. So silly really but one I clung to for many years.
Thanks for making that video it is very inspiring.
Have an awesome weekend.

Hi Darlene
Wow is there a colour you don’t look good in, you are such an inspiration. I have got an axe out to whack my limiting believes and then chopping them up into small itty bitty pieces. How liberating. Amazing how we hold onto so many believes that are not serving us.
Keep the videos coming.

Thanks, Belinda. When we get to examine the silly limiting beliefs it IS time to take an axe to them and completely remove them from your memory.

Gosh Dar –
You’re so brave. I wouldn’t be doing this 30 Day challenge (or sticking with it – if somewhat sloppily lol) if it weren’t for you and like Don said … you are so clearly more comfortable and finding your stride in this medium – go you!!
I love the ‘whacking’ image too.
Heck – I love you!

Darlene,
Limiting beliefs… we find that one of the biggest challenges is in identifying them. We’ve discovered a few of them on our journey… through sharing with each other and taking a few powerful courses. When we are aware of what they are, it’s like a light goes on and we find it so blatant that we don’t understand how we couldn’t have noticed before. Chalk that up to the “don’t know we don’t know category”
Thanks for sharing,

Darlene, I absolutely love the title of your blog post – Whacking Limiting Beliefs. That’s what they need, a whack. When I have free time, a whole free day, in advance I think how great it will be. But when the day comes, I start feeling that I am unproductive or unworthy if I don’t accomplish all the things I had planned for that one open day. However, very rarely does it happen so smoothly. Somehow, lots of things get in the way (computer problems, printer problems, new projects to focus on, a fragile bookcase that collapsed). I need to give those limiting beliefs a good whack and just handle what has to be handled for the day, knowing tomorrow is another day.
Thanks for a beautiful and heartwarming post.

Erica,
I totally identify with feeling “unproductive or unworthy” when I don’t accomplish my To Do list on a free day. On a conscious level it makes no sense. Your body needs r & r time. Thanks for identifying another strong limiting belief!

Darlene, thank you for sharing your inner self in this powerful video….all that practice is definitely paying off
I have seen JB’s video and my inner fears are very similar….that I cannot be successful unless I work all hours, and that means I have no time for anything else. In a recent yoga class my yoga teacher said she had been using the mantra “there is plenty of time”. I decided to adopt that mantra and since then I have made time to go for a run every day, to spend more time with friends and take care of the household chores whilst my husband is at work. And guess what. My business hasn’t vanished into thin air. I still devote serious hours to my business, but I feel more focused and productive than before and life is far more rewarding. Time will tell how long I can keep it up for…

Great mantra, Louise. I’ll try it myself: “there is plenty of time.” After all, what you think about you attract, right? Let’s compare notes on this one in a couple of weeks.

Very powerful and thought provoking post Dar,
those damn limiting belief’s…..they keep popping up don’t they. They’re such a common thing amongst us beings.
I too find myself falling into the trap of feeling that I need to put a zillion hours into my studies, my work, my business etc to expect to see growth and success.
I do pull myself up on it though and I use a similar mantra to Louise, this being ‘I have more than enough time’, and it always turns out to be the case.
Thanks for the words of wisdom Dar.

What an authentic and vulnerable share. Thank you for letting us in, Darlene. Whacking (love that twist on the usual Tackling!) limiting beliefs is something I think most people don’t ever do. It takes looking deep in to our soul, and bringing forth the parts where we don’t feel worthy for all to see. However, it is only when you lay it out in the open that true healing and movement can begin. So congratulations! You are an amazing and valuable woman!
You are now in the home stretch of your video challenge, keep rockin’, you are doing a fabulous job.

Hi Darlene,
We continue to share a lot of similarities. I’ve had a limiting belief in regards to intimate relationships because of my health issue as well. I’ve suffered from chronic pain for over 17 years and my limiting belief is that no one would want to and no one should have to put up with my pain.
I watched Jonathan’s video when I received his email also. Powerful stuff! We don’t think that someone as successful as Jonathan would have issues with limiting beliefs, but he is just like the rest of us. Continual growth and personal development applies to all of us, no matter how successful.
Wonderful, inspiring post Darlene!!

Hey Darlene. This is a great post, but where is the video from Jonathon? I did not see a link anywhere. This was a very heartfelt post. We all have something of value to add some days it is hard to dig it out.
Hey – just so you did not understand my post, The Ballad of the Sad Cafe, is actually very sad and the characters never escape because they don’t see that they can. It seems you have escaped.
Thanks for sharing this post and video with us.
August 28th, 2010 at 11:10 am
Hi Nicole,
Jonathan’s video is hyperlinked at the beginning in “false beliefs” and at the end of the article just click on his name.
I got that The Ballad of the Sad Cafe was sad. I have escaped; however, raising your shoulders six inches caught my attention. It sounded like a good read to be further satisfied about where you are in life!

Goddess Darlene,
Never, Ever doubt that you are valuable and that you provide oodles of value in each and every post and video you make! *hugs*
This one is a prime example.
I’m not a huge JBudd fan and would never have seen this video without your prompting.
And I wouldn’t have known about this deceptively simple process of moving through worry, into emotions to uncover the limiting beliefs underneath.
And I’m already – having just played with it for a few minutes – noticing a shift and a few little aha’s that warrant further investigation.
This is HUGE, dear heart.
and I cannot thank you enough.

Hi Darlene,
great food for thought!
Limiting beliefs can be so subtle, like a subcurrent.
One thing I try and keep in mind is: “If I have a feeling which is lasting longer than 10 seconds, it usually means that it is a blast from the past”.
Maybe this can help being more aware. It can be like detective work.
When we can find better feeling thoughts to replace those icky feelings with then we are on the way.
Love and Joy
